Lent Bible Study
The final session of our Lent bible studies will now be held on the new date of Wednesday 1 May 2019 at 7.30 pm at St John’s Church to explore “He is risen indeed! … but can you believe it ?“

Radyr & Morganstown Civic Service
The Civic Service which formally marks the start of the 2019 Radyr and Morganstown Festival will include the address by our Vicar, Rev’d Vicki Burrows. Sunday 5 May 2019 at 18:00 in Christ Church, Radyr
Please note that this service is at the usual time for a Sunday evening at Christ Church – earlier than this service has been held in previous years. Due to the community nature of this service it is always well attended so we do recommend arriving early as space may be limited.

Lent lunches 2019
Our annual lent lunches happened in the New School Rooms each Friday in lent at 12.30. Join us for homemade soup, bread and cheese with a hot drink for just £5.00. Proceeds go to Christian Aid.
The 2019 lunches raised a total of £1226.00 for Christian Aid
Faure Requiem is to be sung by the Parish Choir at 18.00 on Sunday 14 April at Christ Church, Radyr. Lasting approximately 40 minutes, this beautiful choral work, composed around 1887, gives a sense of the eternal rest. Fauré wrote of the work, “Everything I managed to entertain by way of religious illusion I put into my Requiem, which moreover is dominated from beginning to end by a very human feeling of faith in eternal rest”. A great opportunity to “bring a friend to church” or simply come and share the beauty of the music God inspires. A retiring collection will be taken.
This event will also be preceded by a Bring and Share Tea in the New School Rooms at 17.00. Simply bring a plate of food to share. All are welcome.
Lent Reflections and Bible Study
Lent begins on 6 March 2019. Rev. Vikki Burrows will lead 2 series of reflections for Lent.
Each Friday during Lent we will be meeting at Christ Church at 12 noon for 30 minutes of bible study, conversation, meditation and prayer followed by a soup lunch for Christian Aid.
And each Monday during Lent we will meet at 7.30 pm at St John’s Church to explore “Can you believe it ?“ Bring your Bible and an open heart and mind. Please join us!

Shrove Tuesday Quiz
It’s time to get your team together for the annual Shrove Tuesday quiz on 5 March, starting at 7.30pm in the New Schoolrooms. Chris Dale has been busy preparing questions on a wide range of subjects to challenge us. Tables of eight.
Tickets, £8, are now available from the Churchwardens and include a supper of quiche, homemade coleslaw and French bread, with pancakes, fruit and ice cream to follow (speak to a Churchwarden if you are unable to eat any of this).
Please bring your own drinks and glasses.
Licencing of a new Priest in Charge for Radyr
You are invited to the Licencing service of the new Priest in Charge of the Parish of Radyr (Rev. Vicki Burrows) and the celebration of the inaugeration of the North West Cardiff Ministry Area. The service will be lead by the Rt. Rev. June Osborne, Bishop of Llandaff.

The service will be followed by refreshments in the New School Rooms.

Ecumenical Advent Service
Preparing, Waiting, Hoping – Our Advent Service shared with the Methodist Church in Radyr will be held on the evening of Sunday 2 December 2018 at 18:00. Come and join us to prepare a way for the Lord and Sing the King who is coming to reign!
Get Ready for Christmas
The Annual festival event is being held on Saturday 24 November 2018 at Christ Church. Christmas crafts, gifts, raffle, tombola, festive food and drink with entertainment for those small and tall.
Start collecting items to donate to our stalls or collecting your shiny pound coins ready to spend on those Christmas gifts
Once again we are preparing ShoeBoxes for Operation Christmas Child. Empty boxes are available in both churches. Do start gathering gifts to fill a box as they will be collected at our Special Shoebox Sunday service on 18 November 2018 to ensure they can be sorted and delivered by Christmas.
Last year we collected 288 shoe boxes – can you help us beat that figure this year?
The Parish will be taking part in the annual community event at the war memorial in the square in Radyr on Sunday 11 November 2018 alongside other community groups. This event will start with a procession from Christ Church at 10:30 and the ceremony around the memorial begins at 10:35.
This will be followed by the community Remembrance Service in Christ Church just after 11:00
Our Harvest celebrations for 2018 will be held on Sunday 7 October 2018. There will be morning celebrations at each church and in the evening we are planning a Songs of Harvest Praise at Christ Church led by the Parish Choir but there will plenty of opportunity for all to join the singing with Hwyl.
Boxes are now available in both churches for you to suggest your favourite Harvest Hymns for inclusion in our evening service.
There is also a list to sign up for the Bring and Share Harvest Supper which will follow the evening service.
Inspired by the movies
An evening of song “Inspired by the movies” on Saturday 29 September 2018 at Christ Church, Radyr. The event is organised by a group of young people including our own Dafydd who has been selected as part of the Wales contingent for the 24th World Scout Jamboree in North America 2019.
All monies raised will go towards not only sending our contingent to the event but also to support Scouts from less affluent countries to be able to attend.
Jenny’s last Sunday in the Parish
Our rector, Rev. Canon Jenny Wigley, has retired from Parish ministry. 15 July was her last Sunday in the Parish. We held a Bring and Share Lunch at Christ Church following the 11.00 service and there was so much food to share in the bright sunshine.

Parish Family Fun Day
The Family Fun Day was held at Christ Church on Saturday 7 July 2018 11.00 to 14.00
This year’s theme was “Seaside Holidays”. Admission FREE but bring your purse for the wide range of seaside stalls.
Bouncy Castle, Inflatable Slide, Freshly made Welsh Cakes, Ice Creams, Face Painting, Stalls, Games, Live Owls, Photo Board, Raffle, BBQ, Bar, Lunches, Live Music and lots more.

The Passion Story – An evening of words and music for Palm Sunday

Women’s World Day of Prayer – Event cancelled due to weather conditions
This year Christ Church will be holding a united service for Radyr on Friday, 2 March 2018 at 19:00. The service this year has been compiled by women in Suriname with the theme “All God’s creation is very good!”. All are welcome to come and join this occasion of celebration and prayer.

Christmas Tree festival
Preparations are already under way for the first annual Christmas Tree Festival to be held at Christ Church over 1-3 December 2017. The Church will be open to welcome visitors to view the displays 10.00 – 18.00 on Friday and Saturday and again from 13.00 until 16.00 on Sunday ending with our Advent Service at 18.00 on Sunday 3 December.
A number of community groups have already been approached to prepare a tree. If you would like to get involved do please get in touch.

The flat pack boxes are already out in both churches along with leaflets on how the scheme works. Our ShoeBox Sunday will be 19 November 2017 where we will receive your donations ready for them to be sent around the world for Christmas.

Family Fun Day
Our Family Fun Day will be held at Christ Church on 1 July 2017 11.00 – 14.00.
This year, the theme for our Family Fun Day is ‘Colours of the Rainbow’. There will be plenty of fun things to do, including bouncing on the bouncy castle and sliding down the slide, and Arnie Kazam will be at the event to keep everyone amused. Of course there will be a bar, refreshments, delicious lunches and BBQ as well as the usual cake, second hand book, Wardens’ bottle, bric-a-brac and plant stalls.
Please keep 1 July free and come along with as many friends as you can, dressed up in your brightest colours of the rainbow clothes.
Songs of Praise for Syria
It has two purposes:
- To encourage those that rarely come to church to join us for an enjoyable evening singing well-loved hymns and
- To raise money as part of our commitment to the Llandaff Deanery project to enable a Syrian refugee family to find a new home and work in our community – @1FamilyCardiff.
Please put 18 June in your diary and think of someone you can invite. We are asking for a minimum donation of £10 towards the project including a glass of wine/juice and light syrian refreshments
A Global wave of payer is being organised from 25 May to 4 June 2017. Prayer stations will be available in both Christ Church and St John’s on 25 May and will then remain in Christ Church with the church being open during the day for those who wish to pray for the following 10 days until Pentecost Sunday.
Enemy of Apathy – Sunday 2 April 2017
Radyr Parish Choir will lead an evening of Words and Music on Sunday 2 April at 18:00, re-telling the story of Christ’s Passion. Using music from the Iona community’s Enemy of Apathy to re-tell the story of the final events before Jesus’ Crucifixion.

Choral Evensong – Sunday 5th March 2017
A special service of Evensong to mark the beginning of Lent at Christ Church on Sunday 5 March at 18:00. Worship will be led by the Radyr Parish Choir following the traditional form for sung evening prayer.
