Golden Jubilee Celebration 2002

Street Party in 2002

In 2002 the community held a number of Jubilee celebrations across the village. Children dressed up in fancy dress for a costume competition and attended a tea party. There was a Rock Concert at the Mound Field with three bands including the “big band” from the Comprehensive School. 300 young people enjoyed the day listening to the bands. An Open Air Service was held in Windsor Gardens led by the Rev Bill Barlow and other church leaders. Radyr Woods held a teddy bears picnic. The Old Church Rooms was the venue for all the memorabillia and photos over the last 50 years. Although the weather was a little inclement a number of street parties took place in Chestnut Tree Close, Kings Road, Station Road, Windsor Grove, Ash tree Close, The Green and Llwyn Drysgol, where there were 130 party goers. We lit a beacon prior to a grand firework display watched by over 500 residents. Lets hope that 2012 lives up to the celebrations organised 10 years ago.
