The Parish of Radyr
Welcome to the website of the Parish of Radyr – Christ Church in Radyr and St John The Baptist Church in Danescourt.
These are extraordinary times. Normally we would describe ourselves as two vibrant, growing churches with all age congregations but for the past few months our churches have been closed for the well-being and protection of ourselves, our neighbours and for every medic and key worker whose task it has been to care for our nation. We owe them all a huge debt of gratitude.
CHURCH SERVICES RESTARTED ON SUNDAY, 19th JULY
I am delighted to say that our churches are now open for public worship including baptisms, weddings and funerals.
Services will be held at the usual times:
Christ Church: Sunday at 08:00, 11:00 & 18:00, and Wednesday at 09:30.
St John’s: Sunday at 09:15 and Thursday at 11:00.
OUR “NEW NORMAL” SUNDAY SERVICES
Our services will feel different – our buildings have been reorganised internally to ensure Social Distancing but we hope we can accommodate everyone. We will be following strict Church in Wales hygiene and distancing guidelines to ensure the safety of every worshipper. On arrival at church you will be asked to register your attendance (for tracing if necessary) and sanitise your hands. You will be seated by our welcome team who will ensure you sit at least 2 metres from others.
The sacrament of Holy Communion will be shared in one kind only (bread); this will be distributed where you are seated to keep contact to an absolute minimum.
We are unable to sing hymns or use pipe-organs but there will be music at some services (11am and 9.15am).
FACE COVERINGS – please wear one if you wish but these are not mandatory for worshippers at present.
In the coming weeks you may hear the bells (but this will not be the norm as our bell ropes are rather close so only one family can ring together at present).
THE PARISH OF RADYR – WORSHIP AT HOME
We will continue to provide worship on-line for those who are shielding, self-isolating or vulnerable.
We recognise that the past few months have been difficult for many people – some of us have faced loss, loneliness and the impact of the Covid-19 lockdown has taken its toll emotionally, socially and financially on many of us.
